Benaulim Beach In Goa

This beach is historically famous. According to Hindu mythology, the state was created when sage Parasurama, Lord Vishnu's sixth incarnation, fired an arrow into the sea from the top of the Western Ghats and ordered the waters to recede. The place where it fell is called ‘Banali’ in Sanskrit. The Portuguese called it Benaulim. The Benaulim beach lies in the centre of Colva Beach, seven km west of Margao.

The town used to be known for fishing and rice farming. You can still visit the paddy fields and the streams here. The lesser known Varca beach and town is nearby.
